Katherine Labelle Dance Society

Katherine Labelle Dance Society was founded in 1992 by performer/choreographer/teacher Katherine Labelle, is a non-profit society dedicated to the promotion of contemporary dance. It supports dance research, development and creation through commissioning, revival, performance and production of works by acknowledged Canadian contemporary choreographers as well as through public education. The organization promotes dance within the Canadian society's changing ways of making, seeing and distributing art. Katherine Labelle Dance also supports the production and creation resulting from the interaction between dance and the camera (photography, video and film). The artistic direction of the society is guided by Katherine Labelle.

Katherine Labelle

Katherine Labelle is known as one of this country’s finest modern dancers. She has been creating, teaching and performing in Canada as well as internationally (Russia, USA) since 1983. Ottawa born, she relocated to Vancouver in 1990 after a long and fruitful association with Le Groupe de la Place Royale. In 1992, she formed Katherine Labelle Dance to support her solo artistry, as well as her choreography for the stage and the camera. Labelle’s videodances have aired on Bravo, Knowledge Network, WTN and Toronto’s Moving Pictures on Video and Film.

This is our invitation for you to join the Katherine Labelle Dance Society. By becoming a member of the society, you help support us and, in turn, help us support the creation and performance of contemporary dance.

Arts funding has always been challenging to secure, and now it’s no longer enough to produce dance and have an audience, in order to qualify for charitable funding, we need to have an active society membership made up of the community we live in. So become a member, get and give some benefits!

Promo Packages

We now have promo packages available for presenters worldwide. The package includes a 16 minute VHS video tape with excerpts from six pieces of Katherine's solo dance repertoire. The tape is available in NTSC and PAL video formats, please specify which you require when requesting a package. You may request a package by snail mail, or by using the contact form on this site. We also have RealVideo clips available on our gallery page.
