The Alberta College Muttart Recital Hall music recital facility has been a favorite venue of musicians, instructors and the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation in Edmonton. Although the available room volume was quite small, limiting the maximum available reverberation time, we designed for a smooth reverberant spectrum. The room shape was developed through extensive 3D computer modelling to ensure that early arrivals and lateral reflections were consistent throughout the seating. Room construction details were developed to provide solid bass performance with minimum construction cost. Not every successful recital venue needs to cost a fortune, and in this case we worked with Len Rodriguez of WSAG Architects in Edmonton to provide very cost-effective acoustical performance. Mechanical noise control design was provided by BKL Consultants.
